Blogging
Blogging is a useful tool. It is not hard, and is much closer to the informal discussions you have in the hallway or via email than it is to peer-reviewed papers. It is a GREAT way to achieve that level of communication. Blogging is an easy way for students and anyone else to positively build their online reputation. It is just another part of the communications and marketing mix. It is a form of self-publishing, and you may find that colleagues and students, known and unknown to you, visit your site. Blogging is a very good tool for advancing a career but not the only tool and the implementation, of course, is the key.
